Virtual reality (VR) is increasingly being used across various domains, including education, training, therapy, and work environments. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) enhances these interactions, making them more immersive and efficient. AI-driven virtual tutors or chatbots can provide personalized support to individual learners, while adaptive virtual environments can dynamically respond to users' emotional and cognitive states, creating more engaging and motivating experiences that facilitate learning. However, there are also concerns that AI and VR could negatively impact experiences and behaviors, with the potential for manipulative exploitation. This workshop aims to explore how AI can be leveraged to optimize human-VR interactions while addressing ethical concerns, with the goal of shaping future research directions and practical applications in the field. Participants will discuss current findings and emerging developments shaping this innovative area of study.
Target audience:
This workshop is designed for researchers, professionals, and graduate students from psychology, cognitive science, and related fields, as well as experts in computer science, AI, human-computer interaction (HCI), and virtual reality (VR) development. It aims to bring together researchers with diverse expertise to explore the intersection of human behavior, cognitive processes, and AI-driven VR technologies.
Format and structure:
This in-person workshop will take place at the University of Graz, Institute of Psychology. Participation is free. The format includes:
- Research Presentations (15 minutes + 10 minutes discussion).
- PhD Thesis Discussions - Doctoral students present their projects and/or research plans and receive constructive feedback from the audience (10 minutes + 20 minutes discussion).
- Invited Hands-On Workshops. Practical sessions will provide participants with insights into tools, techniques, and methodologies (approx. 2 hours).
